Soon we will celebrate 75 the anniversary of Great Patriotic War. A lot of teenagers and young people don’t know about places in Yaroslavl which are dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. In my opinion, every person should know our heroes and honor their memory every year.
The aim of my project is to find out about the monuments and museums that can be found in Yaroslavl that remind us about the heroic past of our city
I asked 75 teenagers how often they go to honor the memory of those who died in Great Patriotic war. 72% of them go to the memorial places every year. 9% go every 2-3 years. And 19% don’t visit any at all. All of them know only 2 or 3 memorial places in Yaroslavl. As far as I’m concerned, everyone should know not less than 5-6 monuments and museums that can be found in Yaroslavl that remind us about the heroic past of our city. So I’d like to focus on the most memorable places.
The most important memorial you can find in the historic center of Yaroslavl is the "Eternal flame" which was set up in honor of the military and labor glory of Yaroslavl citizens during the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945.It represents two relief granite walls and the eternal fire located between them. On the left wall there is a warrior, on the right-a labour woman. A special sacred meaning is given to the monument by the majestic view of the assumption Cathedral opening in the gap between the walls – a symbol of the inviolability of the spiritual foundations of the Russians and the eternal Faith in the triumph of God.
Our city is the Motherland of the most famous Marshal Tolbukhin. We have a monument to our country-man, Marshal of the Soviet Union F. I. Tolbukhin, installed at the end of Tolbukhin Avenue on Jubilee square. The monument was unveiled in 1972. Fedor Tolbukhin depicted in half the growth, in his hands a map of the fighting area. This great general led the army troops in the battle of Stalingrad, participated in the liberation from the invaders of Yugoslavia
The Museum of Military Glory was founded in 1981. Today the Museum has a permanent exhibition "Winners!" It shows how the natives of the Yaroslavl region fought on different fronts during the great Patriotic war, and life in the rear, women and children who endured the hardships of the war years on their shoulders.
In Zavolzhsky district of our city there is one of the monuments to the soldiers of the great Patriotic war. This memorial - "Grieving mother" - was founded in 1975 to the 30th anniversary of the Victory. It is dedicated to the soldiers-peat bogs, which died in the battles for freedom and independence during the great Patriotic war. The main part of the monument is the figure of a woman in a shawl thrown over her shoulders. She represents a woman-mother, who lost her son in the war and at the same time a mother-Motherland, grieving for the loss of her children-soldiers who fought for the bright future of the country. On the monument one can read recorded names of all the fallen soldiers-peat.
Amet Khan Sultan monument is dedicated to twice Hero of the Soviet Union, honored test pilot of the USSR Lieutenant Colonel Amet Khan Sultan (1920-1971). Located in Zavolzhsky district of Yaroslavl and unveiled in 2008.
His first aerial victory later famous Soviet pilot Amet Khan Sultan won in the sky over Yaroslavl. On May 31, 1942, having spent all his ammunition in the attacks, he rammed an enemy Junkers 88 bomber flying to bomb a railway bridge across the Volga
Patriotism is a moral and political principle, a social feeling, the content of which is love for the Motherland and willingness to sacrifice their interests in honor of it.
The loss of patriotism in modern society is characterized by a loss of perspective, distraction, anxiety and uncertainty about the future. Patriotism, the development of which previously devoted a lot of effort, gradually turned from a necessary element of education of the younger generations, into something out of date. The development of patriotism among young people was treated more formally, thus discouraging the desire to be a patriot and causing doubt about the appropriateness of this personal quality.
In conclusion I’d like to say that there are a lot of monuments and museums in Yaroslavl which are dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. They help us to honor the memory about people who died in the war. But there are some percent of teenagers who do not visit memorial places at all or do it rarely. In my opinion, society needs comprehensively developed, intellectual, creative young people who love their Homeland, know the history of their country and immensely honor the Great exploits of the past. Education of the younger generation of patriotism and love for the Motherland are relevant for modern society.
